JonOne
Né dans le quartier de Harlem à New-York en 1963, JonOne – aussi connu sous le nom de Jon156 – est un artiste graffeur qui vit et travaille désormais à Paris. Entre rupture scolaire et difficultés familiales, le jeune homme n’échappe pas au quotidien d’une jeunesse en danger et embrasse l’école de la rue et la culture hip-hop. À l’âge de 17 ans, il commence le graffiti. John devenu Jonone fonde, épaulé d’une poignée d’activistes graffers, l’illustre collectif international 156 All Starz, en 1984. Durant ses jeunes années, il fait la rencontre du Français Bando, qui l’invite immédiatement à Paris. Par ses incessantes mutations et ses renouvellements stylistiques, John JonOne Perello a fait émerger de ses œuvres une figure artistique multifacettes aux visuels créatifs.
De sa période bleue, aux huiles, en passant par le pointillisme, l’homme a acquis aujourd’hui une palette extra-large de techniques variables. Ses explosions acryliques débridées sont révélatrices d’un artiste en constante évolution et à la creative débordante. Il est à ce jour le plus important expressionniste abstrait en activité, issu du monde du graffiti.

Raised in Harlem during the heyday of graffiti art and hip-hop culture, JonOne creates oil on canvas paintings that reflect the culture of freestyle street art. Born John Andrew Perello, JonOne began tagging the streets of New York as a teenager in the early 1980s. After gaining notoriety and assembling his own tagging crew, JonOne relocated to Paris in the 1980s and began collaborating with the French artist Bando; he also began painting in oil on canvas, a practice that became an important part of his work in subsequent years. Although removed from the street, his studio work retains the same uninhibited energy as his graffiti-inspired work, boasting boldly colored, stylized calligraphy arranged in allover compositions that reflect the artist’s understanding of both urban walls and the space of the canvas.
